Anxiety can come out of nowhere, but, causes of anxiety usually include: Stress at work, Stress from school, stress in a personal relationship such as marriage, financial stress, stress from an emotional trauma such as the death or harm of a loved one, stress from a serious medical illness, side effect of medication, and according to recent study remaining sedentary for long periods of time.

The Research.

For years the epidemic of anxiety has grown rapidly, now reaching millions across the globe.  In a study conducted by the University of Deakin, researchers focused on examining why sitting causes elevated levels of anxiety.
The research consisted of analyzing nine different studies that investigated the link between anxiety and sedentary behavior. The majority of the research material that was analyzed proved that there was a positive association between the number of sitting hours a person does each week, and their risk of developing anxiety.
According to Megan Teychenne, the lead researcher of this study, anxiety is far more dangerous than you might think. Anxieties symptoms include restricted breathing, headaches and an accelerated heartbeat. Anxiety has also been linked to instances of chronic heart disease and cancer.
Teychenne also states that “we are seeing an increase in anxiety symptoms in our modern society, which seems to parallel the increase in sedentary behavior,”
The data presented from five out of the nine studies the researchers found a positive association between the number of sitting hours a person does each week and their risk of developing anxiety. While data obtained through secondary research has proven that sitting for long periods of time can lead to elevated levels of anxiety.
Researchers are still unsure as to why remaining in a sedentary position for extended periods of time causes anxiety.
